Yómi-Place Opening Reception August 8, 6-8pm Hear from Tribal Elder Millie Simon and Artist/Curator J. Meders at 6pm. Yómi-Place is an exhibition featuring artists Eric-Paul Riege (Diné) and Jacob Meders (Mechoopda) as well as Pomo and other Native Northern CA basket and jewelry makers. This exhibition highlights how contemporary Indigenous artists gather culturally meaningful material to build upon ancestral traditions and values. The artists all come from communities with weaving traditions, though from different regions of Turtle Island (North America), and with different materials in mind. They dig deep into the beauty and values of their ancestors’ ways of knowing and making to reframe how contemporary Indigenous aesthetics are woven together across regions, know-how, and future visions.
